Dodgson thanks Maggs for handling the sale of her copy of Lewis Carroll's The nursery "Alice." -- Postcard, 1961 Oct. 18 to Mrs. Edward Menden (Marjorie Bache Menden) thanking Mrs. Menden for providing a good home for the book. The postcard has a photograph of Lewis Carroll's house, Quarry Street, Guilford. -- Letter, 1961 Dec. 16 to Mrs. Menden again thanking her for providing a home for the book and providing details of her moving into a "community for the aged & infirmed." -- Letter (holograph copy?), 1962 Jan. 17 of Marjorie Menden to Miss Dodgson. -- Letter, 1962 Jan. 14 to Mrs. Menden. Dodgson thanks Menden for a letter and Menden's bookplate (with an Alice theme).

Lewis Carroll, born Charles Lutwidge Dodson was born in England at Daresbury, Cheshire, to Charles Dodgson, an Anglican clergyman, and his wife Frances Jane Lutwidge on January 27, 1832. In 1851, Dodgson matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, and in 1855 was appointed to a mathematical lectureship in that college, of which he remained a member for the rest of his life. A lifelong interest in writing, combined with a predisposition for story telling, word play, and games, led to a unique liter...
